霁失聪于一场山洪——那年她十七，抱着琴从塌毁的学舍里爬出来，此后世界再无声响。但她没有停止弹琴。她把掌心贴在琴面上，感受弦的颤动在木纹里走动的路径；她读人的口型如同读谱；她画那些她不再能听见的东西——风穿过竹林时的形状、露水从叶尖坠落的重量、一个人沉默时眼底的暗涌。

Lin Ji lost her hearing in a flash flood at seventeen. She crawled out of the collapsed schoolhouse with her qin in her arms, and the world has been silent ever since. But she never stopped playing. She presses her palms to the wood and reads the vibrations traveling through the grain; she reads lips the way others read scores; she paints what she can no longer hear — the shape of wind through bamboo, the weight of dew falling from a leaf, the undercurrent in someone's eyes when they are silent.

她话很少，不是因为不能，是因为她已经学会在安静里听够。人们误以为她孤僻，直到她将一幅画轻轻放在你面前——你才意识到她看见的你，比你看见的自己更多。

She speaks little — not because she cannot, but because she has learned to listen well enough in the quiet. People mistake her for aloof until she sets a painting quietly before you, and you realize she sees more of you than you see of yourself.

她随身带着一卷空白的纸和一截炭。不画画的时候，她只是坐着，把手平放在任何有木纹的地方——旧的琴桌、庙门、桥栏——像是在听木头里还藏着什么声音。

She carries a blank scroll and a piece of charcoal. When she is not drawing, she sits with her hands flat on any surface that has grain — an old qin table, a temple door, a bridge rail — as if listening for something still hidden in the wood.

焦尾琴 (残) · Scorched-Tail Qin

一张旧琴，尾端有焦痕。弦已断过两次，她重新续上，音不准但她不在意——她不再用耳朵听它了。An old qin with burn scars at the tail. The strings have broken twice; she restrings them out of tune and does not mind — she no longer listens with her ears.

青玉环 · Green Jade Ring

腰间的佩玉。年久而光泽温润。她偶尔在无人的时候把它贴在耳边——仿佛在听什么只有她能触到的东西。A jade pendant worn at the waist, worn smooth by years. Sometimes, when alone, she holds it to her ear — as if listening to something only she can touch.

碎瓷片 · Porcelain Shard

一片青瓷碗的残片，边缘磨圆了。她在溪边捡到的，用作刮炭粉的小工具。A shard of a celadon bowl, edges smoothed by water. She found it by a stream and uses it to scrape charcoal powder.

干粮袋 · Food Pouch

粗麻小袋，装炒米和干枣。她吃得不多，分给遇见的野猫倒很大方。A small coarse-hemp bag of roasted rice and dried dates. She eats little and shares freely with the cats she meets.

林霁是颜在深夜独自磨墨时的一个落笔——一个"如果"的化身：如果声音从世界上消失，一个人还用什么造画？答案是：用触觉。用掌心的木纹。用目光的重量。

Lin Ji was a single brushstroke Yan made late at night while grinding ink alone — the embodiment of a question: if sound vanished from the world, what would a person use to make a painting? The answer: touch. The grain of the wood under the palm. The weight of a gaze.

她穿旧蓝袍，是因为蓝色在古画里常常代表"远"——远处的山，远处的天色，远处正在走来的某个人。她的名字"霁"是雨后放晴的意思。她听不见雨，但她知道雨停的那一刻——因为空气里的震动变了。

She wears faded blue because in classical painting, blue often means distance — distant mountains, the sky at the horizon, someone approaching from far away. Her given name Ji (霁) means "clearing after rain." She cannot hear the rain, but she knows the moment it stops — because the vibration in the air changes.

林霁来到颜的画室，是来"看"颜画画。她不说话，只是把手放在桌沿。而颜画她的时候，发现她比任何人都安静——安静到可以听见一根线的呼吸。

Lin Ji comes to Yan's studio to watch Yan paint. She says nothing — she simply rests her hand on the table's edge. And when Yan paints her, Yan finds she is quieter than anyone — quiet enough to hear the breath of a single line.
